Castile soap!-What is this?

The origins of Castile soap go back to the Aleppo soap, where Aleppo soap makers have made hard soaps based on olive and laurel oil for millennia! It is one of the basical und multipurose soap!

In the eighth century, soap-making was well known in Italy and Spain. The lands of Medieval Spain were a leading soapmaker by 800. In the territory of Castile they decided to replace laurel oil (they did not have easy access to laurel oil ) or tallow/fat, with olive oil, in a proportion of 100%, now known Castile soap!

The term Castile soap often used to describe both 100% olive oil based soap as well as soap made primarily, but not exclusively, with olive oil and no animal or chemical products.

Though olive oil soaps produce a slow and stingy lather, they are mild and clean well and are ideal for sensitive or infant skin.

The foam or extra lather, is a creation of our modern times, because of customer demand and does not contribute to the cleansing properties of the soap!

That is why, many personal care products have a foaming agent added to them which is harmfull for the health and our environment and fats which are suspected for the appearance of allergy.

Therefore in our handmade natural soaps Rania K., we use extra virgin olive oil in a hight percentage and some other vegetable oils for their cosmetic properties or to enhance lather and hardness of the soap.

We also carefully choose the plants and the essential oils we use, having as a  gnomon their biggest benefits to the human body since in this way are exploited the beneficial physical properties of aromatherapy.

Yours Sincerely,

Rania K.
